Look around you. Most people are happy to be at “the level” they are born into; where they see their family members, neighbors, schoolmates. To most, the notion of rising up and attaining an exceptional level of success compared to where they are, never occurs, and think that “successful people” must be born that way, are lucky – like they won some kind of lottery or sweepstakes, are some types of criminals or corrupt, or had success given to them.
This, of course, is not true. Helping others in a business context is the legitimate path that any smart, articulate, hard-working person can take. Doing business deals: yes, sales. Even the most successful people in business who do not have the title “sales” in their job title, are sales executives who thrive on successful deals.
- Partners at the top law firms are those who succeed at bringing clients and business to the firm.
- Those who make partner at the top consulting firms like McKinsey & BCG are not the associates with the highest IQ, but the ones who bring in the most business.
- Investment bankers don’t count bank account balances, but act like real estate brokers for businesses, selling stakes and entire businesses through mergers & acquisitions.
- Over 70% of CEOs in the US got promoted into their executive positions from a background in sales.
- A successful sales executive never has to ask a boss for a raise, and never has to fear unemployment.
- If you are ethical and offering legitimate products or services, you are genuinely helping the people who buy from you.
To succeed in business sales, it doesn’t matter if you went to a fancy university. It doesn’t matter who your parents are. It doesn’t matter where you grew up or what neighborhood you are from. Hard work trumps all of that. Do you have a hunger to succeed, but have been frustrated because you don’t feel like you have been given the right chance? Are you fluently bilingual and confident in your ability to communicate with people across borders? If you know that you can succeed if given the chance, then we want you.
For this particular opportunity, we are seeking entry-level professionals who don’t have corporate sales experience, but want to learn the business by helping our sales executives set appointments, while learning and gaining experience to potentially be promoted to a corporate sales role. This job primarily consists of contacting existing clients and contacts, and coordinating schedules for follow up and periodic meetings to maintain our high level of service with our employer and advertising partners.
Martin S. Fridson in his book “How to be a Billionaire” writes that the keys are to (partial list):
- Do business in a new way
- Thrive on deals
- Outmanage the competition
- Pursue the money in ideas
- Keep on growing
- Hard work is essential
- Enjoy the pursuit
- Develop a thick skin
Are you willing to follow these principles?
